About Us : Who is Mike Pingo?
Mike Pingo trained in the then Rhodesian Airforce and served from 1977 to 1984 and Mike and his wife, Anthea, have been involved in the Helicopter Charter Industry in South Africa since 1984 and locally in Nelspruit Mpumalanga since 1987. Their love of wildlife led them to Mpumalanga (land of the Rising Sun) bordering the famous Kruger National Park in 1987 and, with his breadth of experience in the Mpumalanga area; they founded Sunrise Aviation CC in 1997. As Mike and Anthea have lived in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga for over 30, they are proud to call it their home.
Mike likes to provide a personalized service to his clients in all the avenues of his flying - be it tourist sightseeing, corporate charter flight, game census or specialized aerial photography. The helicopters used by Sunrise Aviation are maintained and operated in accordance with the detailed Air Worthiness Code as dictated by the South African Civil Aviation Authority. Mike has already clocked over 19 500 flying hours in helicopters ranging from piston 2 seaters to twin engine Mil 8’s (Commercial Pilot License: CR16608). with a vast majority of these hours flown in the Nelspruit, Mpumalanga area. He is experienced and certified in the following specialised areas:
This experience was gained both in the Military and Civil Aviation fields. He is however most experienced with Bell 206 Jetranger and Longrangers (known as the safest mode of air transport in the world). Sunrise Aviation operates a Bell 206B and has access to other helicopters in the surrounding Mpumalanga area.
The area of operations of the Company is not only restricted to Nelspruit, Mpumalanga or South Africa, but includes neighbouring states. Operations outside the borders of South Africa, as far as the Central Africa Republic, have been successfully undertaken. Sunrise Aviation is BEE compliant as a level four contributor. The South African Civil Aviation Authority, has authorised Sunrise Aviation to operate in accordance with the approved provisions as set out by the “Air Services Licensing Act” (Operating Certificate No: N555D / G556D).
